The xRC-3363 Ford Rescue Charger provides Ford/Lincoln dealerships with a safe, affordable and easy to operate dealer level service solution to quickly rescue charge the high-voltage hybrid battery pack to regain starting capabilities for the vehicle. The xRC-3363 Ford Rescue charger is loaded with programming software to support rescue charging on all Ford and Lincoln GEN 1, GEN 2, GEN 3 and GEN 4 hybrid batteries.

xRC-3363 provides rescue charging to compatible HEV battery packs up to a maximum voltage of 336 volts @
maximum output of 3 amps. It has 5" color screen operated by touchscreen or keypad to improve the user
experience.

The xRC-3363 platform combined with Ford's applicable software and LV & HV common cables and connectors will provide a dealer level service solution to support current vehicle platform rescue charging service aligned with Ford's strategic global expansion in HEV vehicle platforms.

The deployment of xRC-3363 will provide Ford/Lincoln EV Certified Dealers with a dealer level HEV rescue charging solution that will:

  • Replace the current GRX-5100 rental program involving shipment, recovery, equipment repair, invoicing. 
  • Provide current and future HEV customers with immediate dealer level rescue charging solution.
  • The xRC-3363 comes with a global limited warranty of 2 years parts & labor.

xRC-3363 Rescue Charger:

  • Includes the following:
    • xRC-3363 Ford HEV Rescue Charger
    • Low Voltage (LV) & High Voltage (HV) Common cables
    • Ford xRC Software to perform rescue charging on currently defined Gen 1, Gen 2, Gen 3, and Gen 4 batteries.

The xRC-3363 Ford rescue charger kit comes complete with HEV cable connectors to perform rescue charging on the following battery packs as specified to Midtronics provided the battery exceeds minimum voltage thresholds, can accept and hold a charge and responds appropriately to commands for closing contactors.

  • Gen 1 NiMH
  • Gen 2 NiMH
  • Gen 3 Lithium-ion
  • Gen 4 Lithium-ion 

LV & HV Common Connector Cable Design:

Midtronics designed and developed a new LV and HV common connector cable for exclusive use with the xRC-3363 Rescue Charger. Both LV and HV Common Connector part numbers are required to perform HEV rescue charging and are included with the xRC-3363 Ford Rescue Charger.

The LV and HV common connector provides the following benefits:

  • Lower acquisition costs for current and future Ford battery specific cable/connector assemblies.
  • Storage management with small footprint design of each Ford specific cable/connector assembly
  • Enhanced safety through connection interlock and fuse connectors to protect the user from harm when connecting to batteries.
  • Posi-lock fuse door that terminates HV charges from xRC-3363 along with HV connection to the battery if the fuse access door is tampered with or opened at any time by the user.
  • Protection of cables, connectors, and xRC-3363 from damaging HV current when performing rescue charging service.

Safety:

Only technicians trained and certified to work on High Voltage Electric Vehicles should operate the xRC-3363 HEV Rescue Charger!

Midtronics xRC is designed with a variety of safety features to protect an EV Certified Technician. If a technician fails to establish a proper connection to the HV battery, the xRC-3363 runs a check and notifies the user of this specific error and will not engage the HV charge current adding an extra level of safety and protection for technician, pack or xRC common LV & HV connector cable, or Ford specific LV & HV connector cables.

The xRC-3363 monitors pack voltages before and during the charging process updating the user to the progress of the rescue charging recovery and battery status. The user is alerted if an error occurs during the rescue charge process, or when rescue charging of the battery has been successfully completed.

Ease of use:

The xRC-3363 is designed with handgrips to allow for easy lift and carry applications or can be mounted directly to the included xEV Cart for safe & easy movement in dealership work bay areas.

The xRC-3363 has an intuitive screen flow with large icons to inform the user of the proper steps to perform rescue charging. Before any Rescue charging begins, the xRC-3363 performs a self-test including all the cable connections to detect that the proper battery pack was selected and proper connections were made.

During the rescue charge event, the screen provides an informational status screen of the overall progress, including pack voltage, estimated time to completion. Below are sample screens concepts.

The xRC-3363 incorporates a VIN database that when equipped with wireless 2D VIN Bar Code Scanner that streamlines the service process by pulling up the specific vehicle and HV pack information. The xRC-3363 Ford also stores a record of vehicle VIN and services provided that can be printed or e-mailed directly to the service desk or customers' e-mail.

Communications:

The xRC-3363 includes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to support specific customer program initiatives.

Wi-Fi provides the ability for the user to send completed test results via e-mail to a default e-mail address added during set-up, or specific e-mail address.

Bluetooth supports optional peripheral equipment or accessories that can enhance the collection of vehicle information or automate the test process. As an example, a wireless bar-code scanner for the collection of vehicle VIN to be incorporated into the testing process or recorded with the rescue charging event.
