I had to replace the stator bearing on my '13 Chevy Volt, a known manufacturing flaw, but I'm 10K miles out of warranty. This tool is necessary to pull the old bearing. The problem comes in, that the flaw in the bearing means this tool will just pull the inner race out of the bearing, and then it doesn't open up wide enough to be able to grip the outer race. So, this tool is really only good for pulling good, or worn bearings.
I managed to get mine to open up further by fabricating some shims for between the legs and the spreader part, but it was extremely frustrating to use this way. I thought about welding on it, but I didn't want to ruin the temper on what seems like nice tool steel, and risk ruining it. (Posted on 4/3/2022)
