Spark Plug Remover Kit 3V Ford 6918

This tool is designed to not break the spark plug in the first place. Unique design helps prevent breakage by locking the plug porcelain core to the plug hex allowing it to turn as one complete unit unlike similar tools which are designed to remove the spark plug once it has been broken. It will also pull plug porcelain core if plug hex only is removed. Detailed instructions included to maximize success rate. Works on: Ford 4.6L 3V V8 engines, used in 2005-2010 Mustang, 2006-2010 Explorer, 09 F-Series trucks. Ford 5.4L 3V V8 engines used in 2004-2012 F-Series, 2005-2010 Expedition, 2005-2012 Lincoln Navigator. Ford 6.8L 3V V10 engines used in 2005-2012 F-Series 250/350/450.

The Collet Holder Assembly has a 9/16" socket (similar to OTC 6900 ) on the end and goes down over the spark plug hex. Remove the threaded piece and then screw it back in just one or two threads. There is a silver collet inside that will grab onto the electrode of the plug as you place it down on the plug and onto the hex. Twist the black threaded piece down by hand until it is snug and then tighten (but not too tight) with an 8mm socket. This binds the electrode/porcelain to the plug hex. Then the Upper Socket slides down over the piece you just put on the plug. So now your 1/2" ratchet turns both the plug hex and the porcelain at the same time. You still have to go slow and use some penetrating oil on the plug to loosen the carbon around the lower electrode shield. If the plug still breaks and only the hex comes out, the Adapter and Hex Nut are used with the Collet Holder Assembly to pull the porcelain (and hopefully the bottom electrode shield) straight out of the plug hole. The Adapter piece simply sits at the top of the plug well on the engine and the Hex Nut is tightened against it so the tool is pulled straight out with the top electrode and porcelain attached. If only the porcelain comes out you would have to use the Lisle 65600 or OTC 303-1203 or 303-1398 to remove the electrode shield.
